Tim Herrera is from Cochiti Pueblo, he has been creating Native American works of wearable art for 13 years. Tim learned his trade from Charllene Reano and his dad, but also through his own experiences with silver and gems. Tim has a very unique contemporary style, he mainly uses tufa casts to create most of his art. Tufa casting is one of the oldest forms of Native American jewelry. Tufa stone is a porous type of limestone. The tufa stone is carved into the desired shape and designs with a sharp tool, then the artist melts silver and pours it into the cast. Tim uses only the best stones in his work, especially when it comes to turquoise. Tim’s artistic skills are amazing, and it shows in every piece he creates.

Handmade by Cochiti Pueblo artist Tim Herrera.

This is a sterling silver tufa cast hummingbird pendant, featuring a natural rare gem grade Peyote Variscite stone, and an amazing inlaid Sugilite stone. The Peyote Variscite stone is a green color with a black web matrix, the stone sits in a hand cut tooth bezel. The Sugilite is a beautiful rich purple color.

The silver work in done in an amazing contemporary style, this is what Tim is known for. Tim hand carved the hummingbird design for this pendant onto a tufa stone and poured molten silver into the cast to yield this amazing work of wearable art. Tim added a 16k gold accent drop for the eye of the bird. The detail on this pendant is phenomenal from the wings to the feet!

This pendant measures 3-3/8 inch from top of the bale to bottom, and is 2 inch at widest. The variscite stone measures 7/16 inch by 7/8 inch, and the Sugilite measures 5/16 inch.
